Wellbeing at Work: How We Look After Each Other at Cardium

Julie Clark

Life in the legal profession can be exciting, rewarding – and let’s be honest – pretty demanding at times. Tight deadlines, big cases, and the constant drive to do the very best for our clients can sometimes make it difficult to switch off. That’s why, at Cardium Law, we’ve made wellbeing part of everyday life, not just an afterthought.

Our wellbeing journey

Two years ago, we launched our wellbeing programme, led by our Project Manager, Julie Clark. Since then, it’s become something of a fixture here – a space for us all to step back, recharge and learn new ways to look after ourselves.

The sessions run both in person and over Teams, and they cover a wide mix of topics:

  • The simple power of drinking more water
  • Tips for better sleep
  • Why cutting caffeine after 12 noon can help with energy
  • Healthy eating made practical

Nothing complicated, just small changes that make a big difference. It’s amazing how often the simplest ideas are the ones that really stick.

More than just sessions

What makes our programme special is Julie herself. Alongside running the group sessions, she’s always there for a one-to-one chat if anyone needs it. Her door (and her Teams chat) is always open.

Julie is qualified in counselling skills, and she’s currently studying for her Level 3 Counselling and Psychotherapy Training Association (CPTA) qualification – a four-year course she’s long wanted to pursue. Supporting others is something that comes naturally to her, and it shines through in the way she runs the programme.

Making wellbeing part of our culture

Two years in, our wellbeing series has become part of who we are as a firm. Whether it’s a quick reminder to put down the coffee after lunch or a group conversation about improving sleep, these sessions give us the chance to pause and think about how we’re doing. They also remind us that at Cardium, it’s not just the work that matters – it’s the people behind it.

We know that the legal world will always be busy and sometimes stressful. But by looking after ourselves and each other, we’re building a stronger, healthier team – and that’s something worth investing in.
